On January 5, 1995 A fire broke out in a warehouse in Seattle’s Chinatown district killing four of the fire fighters. The Seattle Fallen Firefighters Memorial was inspired by the tragedy and can be found in Occidental Park which is next to the SFD headquaters (just east of Pioneer Square). Every time I visit this memorial (typically at night for some odd reason) I can’t help but to think of all the awesome heroes who put their lives in harms way for us and how we don’t show anywhere near the appreciation that they deserve.

Nice work on these, I never really thought about shooting here at night and maybe that could be the key because I’ve never come away with anything that inspired me a whole lot (though the memorial itself is quite inspiring). It’s pretty great timing that you were here when the holiday lights were up! They add a lot and maybe that’s what is really getting me here.
All the years I’ve been going to fire station open houses in Seattle (for my oldest boy), I’ve always been very impressed with the men and women who represent the SFD.
I think you are absolutely right about the holiday lights adding a lot to the image, I was thinking the same thing when I arrived at the location that night.
Thank you from here, too!
🙂
What a super tribute.
Thanks Bonnie!
Brilliant photographs.
Thank you very much!
