I served aboard the Independence from 1981 – 1985, attached to VA-15, an A-7 squadron. It was crowded, noisy, smelly, dangerous, and generally unpleasant. On the other hand I was taken to many countries, visited some of the world’s most historic sites, and served with the best men our country had to offer, What I wouldn’t give for just one more day aboard. Thanks for the photo.
Thank you for visiting and for comment, but more importantly, thank you for serving…it’s greatly appreciated!
Served on her 1966-1967 Quartermaster SN. Grand old ship, she.
Peter, thank you for visiting and for comment and of course, for serving!
Wow, incredible perspective and drama in this shot David 🙂
Men Made Marvel.. lovely depiction, quite a scene!
One of the first super-carriers, it’s hard to put into words something that weights 60,000 tons, but you’ve captured it instead..great photo 🙂
Wow – what a powerful image! The dramatic clouds, compelling point of view and grey tones really add to the atmosphere. Bravo!
Who needs words? This is really cool – blew me away. 🙂
Wow!! The perspective of this is great. It is very wall worthy!
Awww, thank you so much Morgan! That totally made me smile. 😀
Another great shot, is it an HDR? I love the dramatic sky.
Thank you Martina and yes, this is an HDR image. Three images combined in Photomatix Pro.
Great perspective David. Love your treatment of the dark clouds. This is one of those moments that I can appreciate the grey, rainy weather we get so often. 😉
I couldn’t agree with you more. 😀
Wow,very impressive. An imposing perspective….what a giant boat…
Thank you very much Schleefy, it certainly is an impressive ship even in the state she’s in!
Very impressive David.
Thank you Sasi, you know you will see this in the monthly comp! 😛

Thank you Bonnie!
Agree with Brandon. This is a very imposing perspective and the overcast sky helps too!
Yea, me and clouds…what can I say! Guess I live in the perfect area for clouds. 🙂
That’s an intimidating perspective. Love it. The photo really expresses the enormity and magnitude of those carriers.
