Today’s The Daily Shoot’s assignment is: “Illustrate or show depth of one kind or another in a photograph today.”
Today’s assignment was fun! With the curtains drawn and the Christmas tree lights on, I decided to try Sasi’s lighting technique and used “Light”, which is an app on my iPhone! When I read Sasi’s post I was most impressed that he used an iPhone app and just had to try it! The iPhone was to camera right and I used a reflector to illuminate the “Canon Made in Japan” text. π
Thanx Sasi!!!

Wow… this is very good. I was trying to get something similar on Saturday, failed miserably however. I need to check out Sasi’s posting.. and wait until I upgrade my iPhone π Well done.
Keep trying Nigel, can’t wait to see the results…I know you will be able to nail it! π
Thank you for the comments!
Very creative shot David. Love the Christmas tree reflection inside the lens and the festive colors. It’s a great advertisment photo for the lens. π
It’s amazing how sophisticated the cell phone has become…
Emily, I had never thought of using my iPhone as a light source until Sasi posted that he had! I like how it turned out especially how the Christmas tree turned out! I also really like how the lights ended up being, I have never really done any light bokeh before. π
David! This is fabulous. So evocative and warm and original. I love your creativity. One of my favorites of yours.
Thank you so much for the lovely comments! I really like this photo too, although I think my fav’s are ones with my kids in them! π
I do believe the holiday season has brought out your best seeing! I love the color in this photo. The iPhone ha beens my biggest craving right simply because of the camera apps.
Sorry for the typos. I was typing with one finger and a daughter on my lap π
No worries on the typos, I fully understand having a child sitting on your lap while trying to type!
I really really like my iPhone, so many things to do with it…such as using it as a light source in this photo!! π
Sweet shot, David!
Thanx Jolene! π
Thanks for the plug David.
Lovely bokeh and that’s an awesome lens you got there. I see this shot as a “tribute to a wonderful lens” π
Any time Sasi! Thank you for the comments, I never thought of this photo as a tribute to the lens until you commented on it, I can totally see it! π

What a great photograph. It looks very professional–and what a creative take on depth. Beautiful focus, lighting and colour.
I signed up to get the daily shots in my emails–but it didn’t work somehow. Still, I’ve had all afternoon to think of something and I haven’t… yet.
Heather, thank you for the wonderful comments, it’s greatly appreciated! I had a lot of fun on this shot, glad you liked it.
As a non-iPhone user who happened to be stumble upon this amazing photography, I have to ask you this; what does the “Light” app on iPhone actually do? The overall atmosphere of your photo is very warm and I can almost hear the Christmas carol, but I just can’t stop wondering!
Thank you for stopping by, hope you have enjoyed what you have seen and hope to see you back!
Sorry about that, I should have explained what the “Light” app is, simply put, it’s an app which uses the iPhone 4 camera flash as a flashlight!
