Picked up this poor clown a few days ago, he was free! Just playing around with external (off camera) lighting again…I don’t know if WP compresses the image or not, I am still trying to figure that out but, you can check him out on my Flickr account…enjoy!
Great photo. As the others have said, your setup is great on this and the negative space is perfect.
Thanx Nigel. 🙂
This is really lovely. Beautiful lighting and love the softness of the colors against the black background.
Why thank you, I have enjoyed playing around with my Speedlite, looking forward to many more sessions!
I agree with Sasi. The lighting here is great.
Thank you Wes!
I like the soft lighting on this shot. Nice use of negative space. I am interested in know your lighting setup for this post (if you don’t mind sharing).
Thanx Sasi, and of course! The set up was pretty simplistic actually. A black sheet for the back drop a few feet away, camera was lower than the clown and I had a Canon Speedlite 430 EX II shooting through an umbrella (pointing directly down on the clown) at 1/4 -0.3 power @ 35mm (zoom). The room was completely dark (save one little light in the back so I wouldn’t kill myself getting outta there!) 😀
Beautiful detail in this & really nice work with the light.

Ade, thank you very much! I am still learning how to use off camera lighting, having a blast though!
