Hand Central The Daily Shoot

Today’s The Daily Shoot’s assignment is: “Make a photograph today with a central point of interest in it.”

Oh, the weather outside is…well, not frightful! It was actually somewhat pleasant to tell you the truth! Since it was nice, I decided to head out to my fav place to explore and take photos, Northern State Hospital.

Keeping today’s assignment in mind, the thing that caught my eye was the wall between the two windows, certainly a central focal point and then…there it was…a black hand print! As you can tell, it would appear to have been there for sometime yet, I have never noticed it before. It made me really wonder what made a person dip their hand in paint and then apply just one hand print? ๐Ÿ™‚

The wall has some crazy patterns and not to mention amazing texture! Hmm, perhaps there’s too much going on in the image which removes focus off the hand/wall…hmmm. Oh well, I dig it and, how I love that place! Enjoy…

  1. I can’t express how much I adore this photo! I’m looking at it for the third day trying to find better words for the comment… but I can’t.
love the colors, love the building, love the style!
    Thank you! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Wow, thank you for the wonderful comment Angelina! I am very glad that you like this photo, it always means a lot to me when the subjects I capture can bring emotion to someone! Thank you again! ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. I agree with Emily .. I was seeing hands all over that wall. I don’t normally photograph old broken down things. I prefer to stay in the realm of the relatively new and clean (call me a neat freak, w/e). I can definitely see the charm in the textures, but it makes me sad to see something so neglected.

    • Hi neat freak (hehehe, so couldn’t resist), NSH is an interesting place and there’s just too much history to go into right now but basically, it’s an old mental facility (HUGE grounds). Currently, only a section of the grounds is open to the public and there are about 4 clusters of buildings which are pretty spread out. It’s a truly amazing place to explore/capture, I feel very lucky to live close to such a place. As always, thanx for the comment! ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. Interesting… a single hand print on a broken down wall. Actually some of the crack lines look like a hand. Okay, there goes my over active imagination again. ๐Ÿ™‚ Nice shot David.

  4. I wonder if someone did that handprint because the pattern of the wall surrounding it looks like handprints….? That’s what it looks like to me, anyway.

    Interesting shot, David.

    • Hi Morgan, It is a little creepy isn’t it? I captured a few more images which I will post to my Flickr account soon…there’s an even creepier photo of some monster graffiti dude! Thanx for stopping by, in case you wanted to see more of NSH, I have included two links to a few NSH sets in my Flickr, not many photos but, it’s something! ๐Ÿ˜€
