Sentinel Scum

Today’s The Daily Shoot’s assignment is: “Use hard light that casts sharp distinct shadows in a photograph today.”

Funny thing with today’s shot, I had the set up all ready to go (well, in my head anyway) early EARLY this morning but just didn’t know what the subject would be! I have had a Sentinel’s (creature from any of the Matrix movies) tentacle laying around my desk for some time (don’t ask why), what better figure to battle this monster than a Start Wars Storm Trooper? And how can I not change the wording of “rebel scum” to “Sentinel scum”? I mean come on, I just HAD to do it! ๐Ÿ˜›

Techy info: Shot with my Canon Speedlite 430EX II in manual mode (1/32 power shot through a snoot) on camera left, low’ish. Another (continuous) light through an umbrella offย  camera right (low’ish again) to capture the reflection of the Trooper. Yes, I actually moved the dude around until I could get a reflection that was acceptable! ๐Ÿ˜›

Enjoy…

  1. Haha! I love it. My husband and I are huge sci-fi movie buffs. SW is of course near the top of the list … followed closely by the Matrix movies (The Fifth Element and the original Dune are my all time favorites).

Love this shot. The concept of a storm trooper going up against a sentinel … I’d go see that movie…..

    • We love the Fifth Element! I would have to say the other two movies that are right up there for me would be Blade Runner and Star Gate (never got into the shows, just the movie). ๐Ÿ˜€ Thanx for the comment.

  2. I am a big SW fan though would not consider myself a geek. I leave that to my son. He knows the name and role of every single character. He is my go to guy. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Technically, I love this shot! Great composition, lighting, creativity etc. Very well done David. ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. the spiral(sentinel ) object leads the eye of the observer to its end ,then to see the soft shadows in BG and then back to spiral’s skin(texture in it) in the FG!! Wonderful composition
